March 1 2018: Chances and Changes

“If you are never scared, embarrassed, or hurt, it means you never take chances.”

-Julia Soul

Everyone, lets take a deep breath. A new year of “slicing” begins and a fresh start is to be had. First, I’d like to say that I hope to do better this year. I burned out in 2017 and didn’t do a wonderful job on my Slice of Life blog. I WILL make it though all 31 days in March 2018. (It’s on the internet now. That means it has to be TRUE, right?)Perhaps this year will be a bit easier for me.

This morning I was bopping along to the radio and a Darius Rucker song (on a side note, it makes me smile every time I hear the former lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish twang out a country tune) was on. The line in the song, “When was the last time you did something for the first time?” hit home. I have had a lot of firsts in the past seven months.

Ten minutes later I shuffled into school, powered up my cell phone to check my favorite class room quote/fact of the day website, only to scrawl out the Julia Soul quote above. “If you are never scared, embarrassed, or hurt, it means you never take chances.” Each of those firsts that I’ve had in the last seven months has been me taking a chance. And I’ve felt all of those things and more. As a creature of habit, I did not enjoy it (even if I needed to do it).

So, I hope you look forward to 30 more posts detailing all those firsts. New cars, houses, pets and more await you. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I have (you know, after I uncurled myself from the fetal position).

Happy trails!

I enjoy the Darius Rucker reference (both his country twang and Hootie and the Blowfish!). I look forward to hearing about more of your firsts.
